A British guest house owner has been found murdered near his home in Malawi.

Alan Fay, 57, had deep cuts to his head and face and was also thought to have been suffocated with a plastic bag.

Police were yesterday questioning a manager at the Lake View Ridge Resort in connection with the death. 

Mr Fay, who had lived in the African country for 20 years, had left the guest house with the man, Gift Mtambo, to walk back to his home nearby. The expat’s family are believed to have been visiting him in Mzuzu, near Lake Malawi (pictured) at the time

His partner, local woman Tina Kamanga, raised the alarm when he failed to arrive home. She has also been questioned by police. Mr Fay’s body was found around 100 yards from the guest house. His two mobile phones were missing.
