British man has his foot sliced off after falling asleep by a railway line following a night out drinking in France

- Freight train coming into station ran over his body around 3am, police said

- He also suffered serious head and stomach injuries, and remains in hospital
A British man has had his right foot sliced off after he fell asleep next to a railway line in northern France.
The 53-year-old tourist from Jersey, in the Channel Islands, is thought to have been drinking before the horrifying accident in Rennes, Brittany, in the early hours of Wednesday.
‘He’d fallen asleep after a night out and a freight train careered over his body at around 3am,’ said an investigating source.

‘He was rushed to hospital where he had to have his right foot amputated. He was also suffering serious injuries to the head and stomach.’
A spokesman for SNCF, France’s national railway, said the man, who has not been named, had got into a restricted part of Rennes station which was patrolled by security guards at night.
They confirmed the victim was a British national from the Channel Islands, and that he remains in hospital.
