British No 2 Cameron Norrie beats Australian Jordan Thompson in four sets to set up second round clash with Dusan Lajovic at US Open

- He will now play Serbian Dusan Lajovic in the second round at Flushing Meadows
Cameron Norrie’s growing reputation as a player to watch was further enhanced when he made it through to the second round of the US Open alongside Andy Murray.
The British No 2 wore down Australia’s Jordan Thompson 7-5 4-6 6-4 6-3 in three hours and 19 minutes in steaming humidity to get past the first round for the second year running.
Norrie looked in control apart from a spell late in the second set when he dropped four consecutive games from 4-3 up.

Thompson is ranked 108 in the world whilst Norrie is ranked 64 and was expected to progress
He now plays Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic to reach the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time.
After graduating from American university last year Norrie has moved up to 66 in the rankings, a rise of 48 places already this season.
He also made the second round of the French Open this year but is awaiting his first success at Wimbledon.
The British 23-year-old produced more aces than his opponent and dominated rallies
Norrie will now play against Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic for a place in the third round
Since the grass court season he has reached two hard court semi-finals on the ATP Tour and will fancy his chances to go further this fortnight against world number 62 Lajovic.
Norrie fared better than British No 1 Kyle Edmund who struggled with cramp in the heat, going down in four sets to veteran Italian Paolo Lorenzi.
