British sixth-former, 17, dies on a school trip to New York after complaining of feeling unwell

A British sixth-former has died in the US on a school trip, it emerged last night. 

Anastasia Uglow, 17, who is thought to have had a pre-existing medical condition, complained of feeling unwell during the visit to New York.

She was with classmates from Bristol Grammar School when she died on Thursday.

Last night, the school said: ‘We are all devastated by the news.’

New York police said officers were called to an unconscious 17-year-old girl in a Holiday Inn Express at 11.30am.

She was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai West Hospital. Doctors are now trying to establish the cause of death.
