British UFC star Michael Bisping is being sued for assault after allegedly grabbing a gym-goer by the throat and choking him during a workout rampage.

The 38-year-old is said to have launched into a ‘verbal tirade’ before lashing out at Antonio Georgakopoulos in a row over weights at a 24 Hour Fitness gym in Anaheim, California.

Bisping, who is originally from Lancashire, allegedly branded the man a ‘little punk’ and an ‘idiot’ before grabbing his throat and squeezing.

According to TMZ, Georgakopoulos says he was only saved after another weightlifter intervened and broke up the fight.

He now claims to be suffering from nightmares and anxiety and is suing for assault and battery.

The lawsuit also alleges intentional infliction of emotional distress following the alleged incident in July this year.

Georgakopoulos claims that 6ft 2in Bisping was arrested for assault and battery at the gym – but Anaheim Police have denied that he was held.

Officers took a report and passed the case to the City Attorney’s Office which determined there was not enough evidence to press charges against the UFC star.

Bisping has not fought since last year but is set to take on Georges St-Pierre in Madison Square Garden on November 4.

Earlier this month he declared to his rival’s hordes of fans their idol is going to get ‘f****** wiped out’.

At the pre-fight event, the middleweight champion had UFC president Dana White in stitches with his string of profanity-riddled proclamations.

‘F*** you, Toronto. I’ll knock him out and then I’ll knock all you out. One by one,’ Bisping said inside the Hockey Hall of Fae.
