British wildcard Ryan Peniston is knocked out of Wimbledon after suffering a straight-sets defeat against Steve Johnson… but will still earn £78,000 for his efforts at SW19

Ryan Peniston’s Wimbledon journey is over after the unseeded Brit was beaten by American Steve Johnson in the second round on Wednesday.

Peniston has had a strong grass court season, which included making the quarter-finals at Queen’s, and he eased through his opening round match at SW19 against Henri Laaksonen to guarantee himself £78,000 in prize money.

However, he was unable to find his best form against Johnson, who wrapped up a 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 victory to move into the last 32.
