‘Go on, nick her!’ British woman is dragged out of the pool and arrested for violating Tenerife hotel’s quarantine after bizarre protest demanding an upgrade as guests cheer on the police

  • Bizarre scenes were filmed at a Tenerife hotel amid coronavirus panic yesterday
  • A Spanish police officer was cheered by the British holidaymakers for jumping in
  • The woman commentating the video, posted to Facebook by David Leigh, can be heard saying: ‘Go on mate , get in there and nick [arrest] her’

A British woman was dragged from a Tenerife pool and arrested yesterday for violating the hotel’s quarantine rules.

In the video posted to Facebook, the unidentified bikini-clad woman is seen backstroking from one side of the pool to the other, while the person recording the footage says, ‘go on mate, get in there and nick [arrest] her.’

This is moments after a man, later found to be a police officer, suddenly stands up and jumps into the pool to retrieve her.

Earlier in the video, the woman can be heard loudly complaining about being trapped in her room for seven days and demanding an upgrade as she leisurely swims around the hotel pool in Tenerife.

The commentator can be heard saying ‘we’d all like an upgrade, love’, as the quarantine-flouter does a roly-poly in the water.

‘I’d like a suite,’ she adds.

As the man jumps into the pool, the crowd cheers and the female commentator yells: ‘Well done!’

‘Stupid cow. She’s silly, isn’t she,’ the commentator adds.

The woman is grabbed by another officer, who is still dressed, waiting at the side of the pool. She is then restrained and held to the floor, to the sound of some ‘boos’ from the crowd.

The commentator said ‘she deserves that’.

Towards the end of the video, police sirens begin to ring out and the two men escort the woman away from the pool.

‘She was British,’ said James O’Neill from Dorset, a fellow quarantined guest at Paradise Park Hotel who uploaded another clip of the same scenes from his mobile phone.

‘What I do know is that the man who jumped in to force her out was another policeman,’ James said.

‘He stripped down to his shorts by the pool before jumping in.’

Another police officer on the side of the pool, this one in uniform, is seen pulling the swimmer out.

‘I’ve not seen her since,’ said James.

The video has been viewed 192,000 times and shared more than 3,000 times.

Authorities in resorts like Tenerife and Benidorm are coping with the current Coronavirus outbreak by trying to keep tourists in their rooms.

However, tourists are clearly not following the ‘social distancing’ credo as closely as experts would like.

‘Serves her right,’ said one unsympathetic Facebook commenter.

‘Absolutely shocking, shame on her,’ said another.

James said Britons are being well looked after by the hotel team.

‘We’re confined to rooms during the day which is frustrating, but we are able to go to the restaurant at meal times as usual.

‘The staff here are being really friendly. There’s not much they can do about the situation.’

The hotel lockdown is ongoing.
