Britney Spears wants to hire lawyer Mathew Rosengart to represent her in ending conservatorship

Britney Spears is reportedly in the market for a new lawyer after her longtime court-appointed attorney Samuel Ingham resigned earlier this week.

The 39-year-old pop superstar has her eye set on high-profile attorney Mathew Rosengart to take over the position, TMZ reported on Saturday.

Multiple sources claimed that not only did Spears want Rosengart to take over her case, but she has already signed a document requesting that he represent her.

‘Pursuant to my statement in open court on June 23, 2021, my rights, and my desire to end the above-referenced conservatorship as to my father Jamie P. Spears, it is my desire to choose and retain my own counsel, at Greenberg, Traurig, LLP as set forth above,’ the document allegedly reads.

She reportedly signed her name as ‘Britney Jean Spears.’

Rosengart, who is a partner in his firm, has had a number of high-profile Hollywood clients, including Steven Spielberg, Ben Affleck and his brother Casey, Sean Penn and director Michael Mann, among others.

The lawyer describes his specialties as ‘commercial, media and entertainment, and white collar defense litigation’ on his firm’s website.

He’s a well-regarded figure, particularly in the entertainment world, and The Hollywood Reporter placed him on its list of Hollywood’s Top 100 Attorney’s for 2021 back in May.

Spears is in need of a new lawyer after her previous attorney, Samuel Ingham, resigned from his position earlier this week.

Ingham will continue doing his duties until the musician has another lawyer in place.

Sources with knowledge of his dealings told TMZ that he was submitting his resignation after Spears claimed in court that she had never been told that she could try to end her conservatorship.

Ingham reportedly believes he offered her that option several times, but she was more focused on having her father removed as the head of the conservatorship.

So far, Rosengart isn’t officially on board with Spears’ plans to have him represent her, though sources with knowledge of the matter say he’ll first work to remove Jamie as the head of Britney’s estate, before trying to end the conservatorship altogether.

The shakeup over Spears’ representation comes amid feuding between her father Jamie and co-conservator Jodi Montgomery, who recently blasted Jamie for trying to blame her for the restrictions placed on Britney over the years.

In an excerpt of court documents obtained by People, Montgomery accused the elder Spears of spending ‘more than $2 million of his daughter’s money’ to advance his fight to remain as her conservator.

Montgomery, an experienced conservator with a degree in social welfare, was brought on to co-manage Britney’s affairs in September 2019, when her father became ill.

Jamie has previously complained that Montgomery had prevented him from speaking with his daughter, but she alleges that, ‘Ms. Spears is the one who cut him off… That is her choice not Ms. Montgomery’s,’ according to documents obtained by TMZ.

Montgomery has remained in charge of Britney’s personal affairs, working as her ‘care manager’, while Jamie still controls her $60million fortune
