Brittany Higgins a ‘passenger’ in David Sharaz’s TV plans: Fiance’s email confession to Lisa Wilkinson is revealed as he admits ‘I’ve scared her’

David Sharaz admitted in an email to Lisa Wilkinson that he ‘scared’ his partner Brittany Higgins after approaching the TV presenter for an interview on her rape allegations.

Messages between Mr Sharaz and Wilkinson were published on the Federal Court’s website on Friday as part of Bruce Lehrmann’s defamation trial.

In one email Wilkinson is seen discussing the logistics of meeting Mr Sharaz and Ms Higgins to discuss the story for The Project in January 2021.

‘Hi Lisa, in the effort of being a good partner to a woman I love and care about, I’ve scared her because this is taking off very quickly,’ Mr Sharaz wrote.

‘Naively, I didn’t even think about the fact that she will feel like she’s a passenger in something. I need her to feel in control of this.

‘She wants to be in control of this, but was happy for me to tell you the background.’

Mr Sharaz said Ms Higgins was still working in the office of Liberal Senator Linda Reynolds at the time and was ‘frightened this will blow up’ before she left or filed a police report.

‘I hope this makes sense, and is okay. My role moving forward is to be a supportive partner for a woman I adore and care about deeply,’ Mr Sharaz said.

Wilkinson responded to the email ensuring that Ms Higgins would be ‘the driver’ of the story.

‘Too many others have been in control of all that’s happened to her to this point. She is wise to want to change that,’ Wilkinson said.

‘Most importantly, please let Brittany know I totally get ALL of her concerns. And I promise that from here, we proceed at her pace.’

Mr Lehrmann launched legal action against Wilkinson and Network 10 in the Federal Court over her 2021 interview with Ms Higgins where she alleged he raped her in Parliament House in 2019.

He was not named in the report, but claims friends and former colleagues were able to identify him as the alleged rapist.

Mr Lehrmann has continually maintained his innocence.
