A high school is ‘in complete lockdown’ after three inmates escaped from a local jail.
Three prisoners, aged 20, 24 and 32, fled Broken Hill Correctional Centre in the far west of New South Wales at around 10am on Thursday.
The jailbreak prompted Broken Hill High to issue a frantic warning to the school’s parents just after 11am.
‘The school is in complete lockdown. Three inmates have escaped the local jail,’ the school wrote on Twitter.

‘Two have been detained, one is still at large. Children are safe and secure.
‘Please do not come to the school or try to phone your children. We will inform you when lockdown is over.’
A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed two of the three Broken Hill Correctional Centre escapees had since been arrested. The third remains on the run.
Corrective Services NSW said it was assisting police after a ’24-year-old inmate escaped from the minimum-medium security’ jail.
‘Two other inmates, aged 32 and 20, also escaped from the facility at the same time, but were recaptured by CSNSW officers shortly after,’ a spokesman said.
‘NSW Police charged the inmates with escape lawful custody and they will be placed in segregation.
‘Any inmate who attempts to escape from prison is re-classified and re-housed in a medium or maximum-security facility.
‘The safety of the community is paramount and CSNSW immediately notified NSW Police as well as local stakeholders and began a search of the surrounding area.’
