  • The 12-year-old boy and eight-year-old girl from Brooklyn made up story
  • Put note reading: ‘I am watching you!! Your daughter is cute’ in their letterbox
  • Blamed it on a man who used to live in their house and was walking past area

A detective’s son and daughter made up a story about a stalker which caused police to interview an innocent man.

The 12-year-old boy and eight-year-old girl from Brooklyn posted a fake note in their letterbox to frame a man who used to live in their house.

It read: ‘Watch out. I am watching you!! Your daughter is cute.’

Hoax: Such was the concern of the allegations, the NYPD put out a video and pictures of a man (pictured) who they believed was a suspect

The girl claimed the man followed her and a friend from her home in Crown Heights to her school bus pick-up spot.

She said she saw the man outside her house on Friday evening ‘ducking down and taking pictures of the interior of the house,’ reports the New York Post.

The boy said the man came back the next day and asked him questions about his parents and which bedroom he sleeps in.

CCTV captured the man in front of the house but he didn’t do anything threatening.

Sources told the Post that he only wanted to drive past his old home and the children eventually admitted making up the story and posting the fake note in their letterbox.

Apparently the children concocted the prank because they were bored and unhappy with their strict babysitter while their parents were away.
