Broome mum charged with killing WA girlfriend by reversing over her while FOUR TIMES legal limit

Mum is charged with killing her girlfriend by reversing over her in her driveway after drinking so much alcohol she blew more than FOUR TIMES the legal limit

  • Couple had a ‘heavy drinking session with three teenagers on Sunday afternoon’
  • Court told lesbian mum decided to drive to  the shops while four times the limit
  • Her girlfriend allegedly walked into the path of the reversing car and was struck
  • Lover was dragged under the car and suffered fatal injuries, court heard

A mother sobbed in court as she faced ‘unique manslaughter’ charges after she allegedly reversed over her girlfriend and killed her while four times over the limit.

Broome Magistrates Court heard Tammy Lorimer jumped in her car after an afternoon of heavy drinking at their home in Cable Beach, WA, on Sunday.

But as she reversed down the driveway to go to local shops, the court was told lover Doreen-Joan Lindsay – who was ‘intoxicated’ – walked into the path of the car.

She was allegedly struck by the car and then dragged underneath before Ms Lorimer noticed and stopped the car to find her girlfriend suffering fatal injuries.

Police and ambulance attended the scene but were unable to save Ms Lindsay.

A breathalyser allegedly showed Ms Lorimer had a breath alcohol count of 0.215, four times the limit.

The couple had been drinking with three teenagers earlier in the day, reported The West Australian.

The pair were well-known in the local area and said to be active members of the LBTQI+ community, and big Aussie Rules fans.

Magistrate Stephen Sharratt said the case was unique because there was no allegations of violence between the pair in the lead up to the tragedy.

But the court heard Ms Lorimer had been banned from driving for 42 months in September for a previous drink-driving offence.

She had a ‘great number of road traffic offences’, Magistrate Sharratt said. He added: ‘I think I’ll leave it there, she is looking quite stressed out.’

Ms Lorimer is charged with ‘unlawfully killing someone in such circumstances that do not constitute murder’. She did not enter a plea.

She was granted $5,000 bail and must not drive and has to report to the local police station three times a week where she can be breath-tested and must blow less than 0.05.

Ms Lorimer will next face court on January 19, 2022.
