Buckingham Palace Road is sealed off after ‘suspicious items’ were found in bag belonging to man in his 50s who was arrested for possessing Class A drugs

Buckingham Palace Road has been sealed off this evening after ‘suspicious items’ were found in a bag. 

The bag belonged to a man, believed to be in his 50s, with police receiving reports that he had been ‘acting suspiciously’.  

He was arrested for possessing Class A drugs, with police adding that other ‘suspicious items’ were found in his bag. 

The road, which runs from the south side of Buckingham Palace towards Chelsea, has been closed as officers assess the items.

A police statement said: ‘Police called at 20:25hrs on Sunday, 12 January to reports of a man acting suspiciously on Buckingham Palace Road #Westminster, close to Eccleston Place. 

‘Officers attended & the man, believed aged in his late 50s, was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs.

‘The man was also found to be in possession of what was reported as suspicious items contained within a bag. 

‘Road closures are in place whilst officers assess the items.’
