Bungling police are red-faced as thief steals the same car TWICE.

A car thief jumped back into a stolen car and drove off while his arresting officers waited for a recovery vehicle.

West Midlands Police officers arrested a male at 4pm yesterday in Birmingham after spotting the missing black car.

They were waiting for a recovery vehicle to come and pick up the vehicle when the suspect saw an opporunity.

West Midlands Police Force Response Tweeted about the incident after the thief jumped back into the car that is pictured and drove away from the arresting officers

He jumped back in the black car and raced away from the police, Birmingham Live reports.

Luckily the car had a tracking device so once the officers realised he was gone, they located him within 10 minutes.

After the suspect was re-arrested, West Midlands Police Force Response took to Twitter to mock the officers involved.

‘Some of our colleagues who will go unnamed were sat awaiting recovery of this stolen car when the offender jumped in and re-stole the vehicle,’ they Tweeted. ‘Tracker contacted and vehicle re-located within ten minutes.’

But the force drew criticism on social media as they joked about the officers receiving a ‘cake fine’, a term referring to emergency services giving their colleagues sweet treats as payment for bungling a basic task.

A user called Police Inspector Forum wrote: ‘I really do struggle with this type of post. It’s not funny and the consequences could have been quite serious. Needless to say it’s a performance issue.’

Another branded the incident ’embarrassing’ and asked: ‘Should such incompetence really be advertised?’

One Tweeted: It’s funny but there’s a danger in advertising your mistakes. You take away that level of ‘authority’ that the police should have. Perhaps this is why officers are spat at, punched and kicked etc.’

Others simply suggested the type of food that should be used to pay the so-called cake fine.

The Cake Legislator – an emergency services joke profile – recommended Krispy Kremes.
