‘I’m laughing, but it really isn’t funny’: Bungling road workers install lamppost IN THE ROAD as vehicles are forced to swerve out of the way

  • Lamppost was placed in the road in Padgbury Lane, Congleton, Cheshire
  • It left bemused locals having to swerve the dangerously placed object
  • After the photos were posted on Facebook safety barriers were placed around the object and it has now been removed

A lamppost became more than a bit if a nuisance in a small town after it was placed in the middle of a road.

The lamppost on Padgbury Lane, Congleton, Cheshire, has reportedly been there almost two months.

Bemused locals took to social media to express their opinions on the dangerously placed object.

The lamppost was originally on a pavement but when the pavement was removed the tall metal object remained.

Following months of frustration resident Lucien Cooper decided to post a photo on Facebook and this set the wheels in motion for the lamppost’s removal.

Yesterday safety barriers were placed around the object and later the lamppost was removed altogether.

The 52-year-old artist from Congleton said: ‘It has been a curious thing.

‘I thought it was stupidly placed and wondered why it hadn’t been bollarded off and why it took so much time.

‘They could have done it sooner.’

On Facebook one user wrote: ‘I’m laughing, but it really isn’t funny. How the hell did that get left there?? Unbelievable and incredibly dangerous.. wow’

This is not the first time a lamppost has sparked anger by being placed in a dangerous position in the road.

In 2016, motorists were left swerving to the wrong side of the road to avoid a strangely placed lamppost let by builders in Woolwich.

In another bizarre example, pedestrians were left re-routing around a lamppost in 2017 after a lamppost was installed in the middle of a footpath in Millennium Way road, Lurgan, Northern Ireland.
