Bushfire threat set to continue as December forcecast to be hot and dry

Bushfire threat set to continue through Christmas and New Year as December is expected to be hotter and drier than average

  • Hot windy conditions are expected to continue to Christmas and New Year
  • There is also expected to be lower than average rainfall across the country
  • Firefighters are currently battling 59 bushfires burning across New South Wales

The bushfire threat looks set to continue towards Christmas and New Year with hot and dry conditions predicted across the country for December.

Rainfall is likely to be below average with the exception of parts of northwestern Australia and Tasmania.

The Bureau of Meteorology also predicts daytime temperatures will be above average for the remainder of the year.

Conversely, much of northeast and south to southeast Australia are likely to have cooler than average November nights which will continue for December in some areas.

‘The next few months until the middle of summer are forecast to be drier than average’ Weatherzone meteorologist Sam Brown told Daily Mail Australia.

‘In the shorter term, there looks to be no easing for bushfire conditions in the next week with hot and windy weather continuing and with only about 10mm of accumulated rainfall for some parts of Victoria’.
