Businessman in Ecuador fights off SIX armed kidnappers

The shocking moment six men tried to kidnap their neighbor in broad daylight has been captured on camera.

Police in the port city of Manta in Ecuador arrested the men Thursday, more than a month after the attempted kidnapping of the businessman on August 8.

A security camera shows a young woman walking in the middle of a street in the town of Jocay as a white pickup struck comes to a sudden stop.

The unnamed business owner sees the men get out the vehicle and he starts running.

Four masked men set off on a wild foot chase with their guns aimed in the victim’s direction.

One of the kidnappers then retreats to the truck, jumps into the driver’s seat and slowly backs up as three of his associates manhandle the business owner.

But the victim puts up a fight as two of the kidnappers struggle to toss him into the pickup truck’s flatbed.

The businessman is then able to flee before the men sped away.

According to El Diario Maniataba, Paco Delgago, a prosecutor with the Manta prosecution’s office, the six men had conspired to extort $100,000 from the business owner in exchange for not killing him and injuring any of his family members.

‘As the merchant never responded to the extortion calls, the neighbors formed an organization to try to kidnap him, but the victim managed to escape in a struggle,’ Delgado said.

According to investigation reports presented to El Comercio, the kidnappers had previously fired shots and the man’s home and attempted to mug him before the August incident.

On Thursday morning, authorities raided seven homes, seizing cellphones, tablets and a cache of weapons and arrested the gang.

The names of the suspects are to revealed during a Friday press conference.
