A businesswoman who sold her car and moved back into her family home to create a healthy seasoning company has signed a $1million deal to have her signature spices stocked at Coles.
Jordyn Evans, 28, saw four years of hard work pay off in July when Coles’ herbs and spice buyer Sioned Read approved three Mingle Seasoning flavours – spicy Mexican, garlic and herb and all purpose – to be put on 850 supermarket shelves across Australia.
Jordyn set out to create new healthier alternatives after realising that most spices on the market are packed with added sugar, artificial ingredients, preservatives, fillers and high amounts of sodium.

‘I wanted a healthier seasoning option in supermarkets that had all the flavour without the nasties,’ she told FEMAIL.
‘So at 25 years old I sold my car, moved back home, and put my life’s savings into creating a flavoursome brand all Australians could trust and love.’
Jordyn has small business ownership in her blood – her father owns a plumbing company – but the first few years were ‘lonely’ and ‘demanding’.
‘I will never forget the times where my family and I would be blending spices in our kitchen until all hours of the night. We always laughed. It was like a Breaking Bad, spice equivalent,’ she said.

She started by opening an online store to connect to her customers, before scaling into retail, with unique flavour profiles like Satay Stir-fry, Hearty Stroganoff and Curry in a Hurry growing her community to 60,000 people

‘Whether it is doctors who are running a healthy eating program and using Mingle as their go-to flavour of choice for their patients or a customer that gets a night off cooking because Mingle is ‘Hubby proof’ or a young mother who thanks us because now her kids eat vegetables, it’s all these stories that inspire and motivate me everyday,’ she said.

In the first month of this financial year Mingle has seen sales soar 300 per cent year on year and Jordyn is confident this trend will continue

They are hoping to be the flavour of choice for two million meals a year.
While the coronavirus didn’t the progress of their product, it did remind Jordyn of the importance food and flavour can have when it comes to bringing people together.

‘The launch of these bottles couldn’t have come at a better time as we are cooking more than ever, but disconnected from each other,’ she said.
As a Victorian in Stage 4 lockdown Jordyn is feeling like everyday is ‘groundhog day’ but she doesn’t want that monotony to exist in the conversations around the dinner table.
‘All it takes is asking one question to another to change your day and life,’ she said.
