Busker, 20, is interrupted by angry woman who says she’s ‘putting people off’

A busker singing on the street has spoken of her upset after she was harassed by a ‘raging’ woman who interrupted her to tell her she couldn’t sing.

Shanice Forster, 20, who has been busking since May, was singing in her home city of Peterborough when an elderly woman confronted her earlier this week.

Video footage shows the mild-mannered busker defending herself after a pensioner approached her on the busy high street to lambast her voice.

In the clip, which has racked up more than two million views, Shanice is seen being verbally attacked by the furious woman, who walked over specifically to tell her she was rubbish.

The OAP, who has been deemed a ‘Karen’, a term referring to a person who polices behaviour, threatens to report her to the council because she ‘can’t sing’,

She is heard screeching: ‘You can’t bloody sing anyway!’

Shanice then replied: ‘Are you ok?’, to which the woman says ‘I don’t care. You’re putting people off. You’ll get reported to the council because you can’t sing.’

But Shanice manages to stay calm throughout the confrontation, responding: ‘I’m bored. Are you ok? Mate, I don’t know if you’re upset today.’

The woman loudly repeats to anyone who is listening: ‘She can’t bloody sing! You can turn that bloody noise off.’

Shanice cooly turns to the camera before adding: ‘Someone’s just come over and said I can’t sing. There’s always one and it’s always old people.’

In the bizarre clip, a member of the public begins to remonstrate with the elderly woman, telling her she shouldn’t be so unkind and to just walk on if she doesn’t like Shanice’s music.

Speaking about the incident, Shanice added: ‘I was just doing my own thing and she came over.

‘Not everyone is going to like it – I’m not there to be liked by everyone and you can’t please everyone – but how rude.

‘And then Karen comes over and puts me down. If you don’t like something don’t go over to that person and put them down.

‘I’ve been busking since May and I’ve never had it like that before. People have commented but no-one’s ever come up and screamed at me like that.

‘On the plus side I’ve not let it get me down. I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve got to do.

‘At the end of the day you’ve got to kill people with kindness – that’s why I was respectful and told her she must be struggling and wasn’t a happy person.

‘I’m bound to get it in the industry so I’m just going to keep going.’
