A busy mum-of-five has revealed how she single-handedly transformed her dark, dingy kitchen for just $205.

The mum said she has hated her dark brown kitchen for over ten years – so finally decided to tackle the task herself.

‘I couldn’t stand the brown anymore so I ordered some heavy duty outdoor signage vinyl from a company I use all the time and wrapped the cabinets and used the Kmart stick on tiles for the splashback,’ she explained, posting epic before and after photos on Facebook.

As part of the transformation the mum also put in a sliding barn door between the living area and kitchen so she can separate the rooms when guests arrive.

Other finishing touches include a coffee station from Kmart and brick wallpaper from Bunnings Warehouse.

The mum’s post showing off the ‘like new’ kitchen went viral.

Thousands of other DIY fans commented on the incredible transformation.

Her cheap makeover also prompted others to think about how they could fix their own kitchens.

‘We have a brown kitchen and I’ve always thought it sucked all the light and thought about getting it resurfaced to a much lighter colour, this has me convinced now. It looks absolutely amazing, well done,’ one woman wrote.

‘Your before photo is exactly what my kitchen looks like now and I’ve been on my partners back about getting it renovated ever since we moved in! I’m definitely using your kitchen as inspiration as I was expecting we would have to pay thousands!’

Others remarked on how ‘inviting’ the kitchen looks now.

‘The kids have been playing in here non-stop,’ the busy mum said.

Some were even more impressed by the results after their own DIY hacks failed to hit the spot.

‘I tried to paint mine.. end result.. didn’t work,’ one woman admitted.

‘I prepped and sanded and it just didn’t stick. I think this way would be better,’ she added.

The mum said she is planning on renovating her entire home in two years – but had to find a quick, cheap solution for the kitchen in the meantime.

‘Your kitchen is perfect – no need to add that to the renovation when you do it – well done,’ commended one woman.

Others warned the mum to be careful of using the stick-on tiles behind her stove as it could void her home insurance policy.
