Cafe calls woman, 22, a ‘monkey’ just months after telling a customer to ‘choke on her olives’

A Victorian cafe that made headlines last year after telling a woman to ‘choke on her olives’ is under fire again, this time labelling a potential employee a ‘monkey’.

When a friend saw the ‘We’re Hiring’ ad on the cafe’s Facebook page on Wednesday they tagged Najat Idmouh, who is currently looking for part-time employment.

Not wanting to work in the hospitality industry, Ms Idmouh, 22, politely responded to her friend by saying: ‘Hahaha no thank you’.

But what happened next left her shocked.

The owner of the cafe – which Daily Mail Australia has chosen not to name – replied to her comment: ‘No monkeys allowed’.

Ms Idmouh, who is of Moroccan decent, told Daily Mail Australia she was left ‘upset’ by the attack but said it was not the first time she’d been targetted about her race.

‘A friend of mine tagged me in their post looking to hire and I replied with “no thanks” as I don’t want to work in the hospitality industry,’ she said.

‘Then they responded with “smart ass” and another comment saying “no monkeys allowed”.

‘I was very angry and upset as I am Moroccan and was bullied in school for my race.’

The incident comes just months after the same cafe, which is based in south-eastern Victoria, called a customer a ‘c**t’ and told her to ‘choke on her olives’.

With an event planned for Sunday, the woman ordered a platter from the cafe, but at the last minute was forced to cancel the platter after a mix-up.

After being contacted by the cafe to confirm her order over Facebook, she broke the bad news to the owner – only to be left shocked when she received a vile response.

Apologising for the mix-up, the woman told the cafe she would no longer be needing the platter – but what happened next was not what she had expected.

Cafe: ‘Yer [sic] so have I your [sic] a c**t.’

Customer: ‘I’m sorry?’

Cafe: ‘Not good enough, I ordered stuff to [sic] I hope you choke on your olives.’

Customer: ‘What a disgusting way to talk to someone, I would never of ordered the platter if I had of known my mum was going to be making one.’

Cafe: ‘Well you can’t stuff people around like that at 9(pm) you let me know [sic] just a poor excuse.’

Customer: ‘… I can’t believe a business could be so unprofessional and name call, especially when I was very apologetic and felt so horrible having to tell you.’

When approached by Daily Mail Australia about the incident, the cafe declined to comment before slamming down the phone.
