Two toddlers were discovered all alone at a California motel after their parents left them for several hours and became intoxicated, authorities say.

On Tuesday, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputies dispatched to a motel in Lake Elsinore after reports of a one-year-old child wearing only a diaper was wandering the parking lot.

According to a press release, deputies found the child alone and still inside the parking lot when they arrived.

They then came across an open door and found a second child, aged 2-years-old, all alone in the motel room.

The children’s parents were nowhere to be found.

Thirty minutes later the father of the children, 50-year-old Joseph Salas, arrived to the motel room.

Authorities proceeded to transport Salas and the two children to the police station shortly before the mother, 32-year-old Tamara Ross, met them there.
