A missing California hiker has been found dead in the Inyo National Forest, according to local authorities. 

The Inyo County Sheriff’s Office shared in a Thursday Facebook post that 40-year-old Alan Stringer was found deceased at the top of the Darwin glacier. 

Sequoia and Kings National Park located his body near the base of the notch to go up Mount Darwin, the sheriff’s office added. They are leading the investigation into the details surrounding his death.

Authorities were notified of Stringer’s disappearance on the evening of November 4. They were told that he was hiking somewhere out of the Bishop area on Sunday but failed to make it home on Monday.

The ‘experienced hiker’ from Huntington Beach, California, failed to tell others of his plans or a potential route that he was taking on his hike. 

According to authorities, Stringer had recently purchased an ice ax and crampons. He also participated in a mountaineering training course.

The hiker was only equipped for a day hike, however

Sheriff’s Deputies located Stringer’s vehicle at North Lake early on Tuesday morning.

Stringer’s cell phone activity showed that he only made a call from downtown Bishop on early Sunday morning, before his hike. 

The hiker’s cause of death has not been released. 

Stringer was married and was expecting his first baby with his wife. She is 38 weeks pregnant. 

A GoFundMe has been established by a family friend to help Stringer’s wife so ‘she doesn’t have to worry for the first year.’ 

It has managed to raise just over $3,000 of its $10,000 goal. 

‘We are heartbroken, and we just want to help his wife, family, and unborn baby girl,’ the fundraiser states.
