California wildfires : Girl hands burritos to firefighters

This is the heartwarming moment a two-year-old girl helps her mother hand out breakfast burritos to firefighters battling against the vicious Carr Fire in Northern California.

The fire – which has claimed the lives of six people and forced thousands to flee their homes – has put a heavy strain on firefighters who are often found working 24-hours shifts.

So one mother decided to prepare food for the emergency service crew to show her support after her brother Kody – who is a member of the team – explained his desire for a breakfast burrito following his long shift.

In the footage Chelsey Lutz’s two-year-old daughter Gracie can be seen walking over to the firefighters as they finish their shift.

The shy youngster slowly offers the foil-wrapped burritos to the crew members after some encouragement from her mother who says: ‘Look he’s hungry, hurry!’

Then as she walks to two other firefighters she has to pick who to hand the food to first – leaving one with a sad face as he pretends to be upset.

The grateful fireman can all be heard saying thanks to the adorable two-year-old.

Ms Lutz’s two brothers, Colton and Kody, and her father, Jerry, were all working the Carr Fire – one of the 17 major fires in the state.

‘We’re just there to help,’ Ms Lutz’s told CBS News, adding that her family would be back Monday night to serve spaghetti.

The video, posted on Facebook yesterday, has been watched more than 60,000 times.

This touching show of aid is just one of the many kind acts done by the distraught community.

Volunteers have collected water, food and supplies while celebrity chefs like Jose Andres and other small businesses are reportedly offering meals to the evacuated for free.

The several large-scale blazes have turned around 200,000 acres (80,940 hectares) into an ashen wasteland, destroyed expensive homes, and killed eight fire personnel and civilians in the most populous US state.
