Calum Best sports dark tan as ITV refer to him as late dad George

Calum Best, and mother Angie, appeared on This Morning on Monday to promote their Mont Blanc expedition to raise awareness and funds for the National Association for Children of Alcoholics.

But there were several fails going on distracting viewers of the weekday magazine show, stealing focus from Calum and Angie, who are honoring the late George Best.

Initially catching viewers’ attention was the fact that Calum was exceedingly tanned.

Mr Hawaiian Tropic: Calum Best, and mother Angie, appeared on This Morning, with Calum sporting a very dark tan and being captioned by ITV as his deceased father George

‘So what colour is Calum Best? That is one serious tan!’ one person kicked things off on Twitter.

‘Does Calum Best look Orange to you or do I need a new TV?’ posted a second viewer, followed by a third who wrote: ‘Calum Best looks like a burnt ice gem that someone has scribbled on with a Sharpie.’

‘Calum Best on #ThisMorning is so f**king tanned I had to check my TV colour settings!’ another remarked.

‘OMG look at the colour of @CalumBest on @thismorning, looks like he’s been dipped in wood stain!!!!’ came someone else’s running commentary.

One person quipped: 'Nice to see Calum Best has been freshly creosoted for his appearance on #ThisMorning'

One person saw the plus side to the tan, posting: ‘Nice to see Calum Best on the TV looking very bronzed on this rainy morning when I am off work ill.’

Plenty more flooded the twittersphere with remarks to the tune of ‘Calum Best is beautiful’ and ‘That man just gets better looking with age’.

Meanwhile, another viewer noticed that ITV had captioned Calum as George – the name of his deceased alcoholic football player father.

‘Pretty sure that’s @CalumBest and not George!’ the tweeter pointed out.

Another typed: ‘It would help if they got ur name correct mate instead of ur dad [sic].’

Indeed, the caption below the reality star and his mother read: ‘George and Angie Best: Our Mont Blanc Challenge.’

Angie admitted she will sit out of that part of the challenge, but was adamant that, at 65, she’s still doing the climb.

She told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: ‘We are conditioned to believe over 60, that’s it, settle down, do your needle point and knitting.

‘Well, no way. I am climbing Mont Blanc. I’ll be doing the hiking, rock climbing. Doing all that.’

Speaking further about the charity’s cause, she went on to stress the importance of raising awareness and support for the loved ones of alcoholics, and how she didn’t have much support when she was nursing her late husband George through his addictions.

‘I didn’t know how I was supposed to cope. I was hated by everyone,’ she recalled. ‘One time, George had promised to go to the Health Farm. I had to go and pick him up from the bar, and everyone hated me because I was trying to help him.

‘I was absolutely the villain. It was me following him around trying to stop him doing the wrong thing.’

She also revealed that she wanted Calum to know his father, but that it came at a cost.

‘I had to send Calum over to spend time with his dad. Good or bad, that’s his father. But one time I called him and asked him if he was having a good time. He said “oh yes, dad and I just had a bonding session, we had a fight in a bar”,’ Angie remembered.

‘I didn’t know how to explain this to her at the time. I wish I had someone to call and say “is this normal?”’ Calum added. ‘So we want to raise as much money as possible to climb this mountain.’
