‘Australian of the year’: Cameraman named Steve is labelled a hero after his VERY blunt ‘audio check’ comment was live-streamed to the nation

  • A cameraman named Steve has been praised online after appearing in a viral clip
  • He was testing the sound before a coronavirus announcement in South Australia
  • He had no idea the press conference was being live-streamed across Australia
  • Coronavirus symptoms: what are they and should you see a doctor?

A cameraman has been labelled a national hero on social media after giving a tongue-in-cheek assessment of the globe’s current coronavirus crisis.

Called upon by news media members to do a quick sound check before South Australian Premier Steven Marshall announced the state would close its borders, the cameraman named Steve was unaware the broadcast was already streaming live.

‘Test one, two hello?’ he said.

‘Thanks for joining us.

‘Uh, the world’s going to s**t.’

An Australian cameraman’s blunt assessment of the coronavirus crisis went viral online

The larrikin video journalist’s blunt assessment of the coronavirus crisis was met with praise and applauded online.

‘Straight to the point, most honest press conference I’ve seen,’ one person wrote online.

Another even went as far to say he should be the country’s next Prime Minister.

‘Made more sense than Scomo,’ the man said.

But others jokingly disagreed, ‘He’s honest. He will never be elected to political office.’

When the media conference eventually did get started on Sunday evening, Premier Marshall went on to say that all people who enter South Australia will be forced to self isolate for 14 days or face penalties.

Coming into effect on Tuesday at 4pm, he added that police would be patrolling the state’s 12 border stations to enforce the regulations.
