Canberra father Graham Stuart Dillon jailed 41 years for killing son Bradyn, nine in 2016

A father has been jailed for more than 41 years for killing his nine-year-old son with a ‘brutal process of torture’ that lasted months and saw the boy burned with cigarettes.

Canberra man Graham Stuart Dillon pleaded guilty last year to murdering his son Bradyn in 2016.

When Dillon appeared in the ACT Supreme Court on Monday, he was jailed for 36 years for the murder, and a further five years for grievous bodily harm charges, including choking and threatening to kill.

Bradyn died from serious brain injuries in 2016 after he was repeatedly bashed in the head.

The nine-year-old’s death was not the result of one attack, but repeated attacks over a period of months, Nine News reported.

The boy was burnt with cigarettes, punched and tossed across the room in a ‘brutal process of torture’ inflicted by his father.

His father inflicted the torture on his son to punish him for naughty behaviour including telling lies and eating lollies without permission, the court heard.

Dillon delivered the final blow to his son February 15, 2016 when he punched and kicked the boy until he was unconscious.

Bradyn was so severely injured in the attack, he suffered bleeding to the brain.

Dillon failed to phone emergency services for help for hours after the attack, instead Google searched what to do if someone was knocked out.

Dillon then shopped online, and visited a pornography website while his son lay unconscious on the ground.

Bradyn was unconscious on the floor of the Jacka home in Canberra for hours before an ambulance arrived and rushed him to hospital where he later died.

‘The offender evidently made unsuccessful attempts to revive Bradyn, but did not call for emergency assistance,’ the court was told.

After he was sentenced to 41 years in prison on Monday, he was taken back into police custody.

Dillon will be eligible for parole in 2048.
