Candice Warner says she and husband David’s working class backgrounds helped them cope

It’s been a turbulent year for Australian cricketer David Warner, 31, and his wife Candice.

And the 33-year-old has told The Daily Telegraph that the pair hit ‘rock bottom’ but were built tough thanks to their upbringings.

‘We grew up in Maroubra and in Maroubra it’s tough,’ Candice told the paper on Saturday.

‘You just move on. You’re working class, you deal with it, and you move on. Life’s too short, life’s too precious to dwell on stuff and beat yourself up about it,’ she said.

She added: ‘David grew up in Matraville in housing commission. I grew up in Maroubra. We still live here.’

Maroubra is a beach-side suburb in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, and Matraville is located close by in the same region.

Early this year, David was banned for one year by Cricket Australia after he helped mastermind a plot to cheat in the Third Test against South Africa in March.

Former captain Steve Smith and player Cameron Bancroft were also punished for their involvement, receiving 12-month and nine-month bans respectively.

Meanwhile, Candice told The Australian Women’s Weekly that she had miscarried just a week after David apologised for his role in the conspiracy.

‘The miscarriage was a tragic consequence, a heartbreaking end to a horror tour.’
