Car is left abandoned after it becomes wedged on a pedestrian WALKWAY following a wrong turn on New York’s Pulaski Bridge

- The crew cut, smashed, lifted, titled and then eventually backed the vehicle up enough out from the walkway that a tow truck could latch on and haul it out

A misguided motorist suffered a Christmas Day mishap when they took a wrong turn down a narrow pedestrian walkway on a New York bridge and got stuck in between its protective dividers.
The abandoned Honda Accord was found wedged along the footpath of the Pulaski Bridge, which spans between Brooklyn and Queens, just before 3am on Thursday morning.
It was discovered by a worker, identified by the NY Post as Rob, who dialed 911 after assuming ‘somebody had one too many’ and got themselves into a spot of bother.
When officers arrived they found that the driver had vanished, having seemingly escaped through a window as the vehicle was so tightly trapped on the Queen’s side of the walkway that opening one of the doors would’ve been impossible.

Officer cut, smashed, lifted and titled the vehicle for several hours, attempting the free it from the pathway as it was obstructing the Brooklyn-bound lane
For several hours, officers from the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit worked tireless to free the car blocking the Brooklyn-bound lane.
The crew cut, smashed, lifted, titled and then eventually backed the vehicle up enough down the walkway that a tow truck could latch on and haul it out the same way it came in.
The badly mangled car was finally freed just before 9am, some six hours after the initial 911 call.
Police are still investigating how the car got there in the first place. The NYPD has not yet responded to a DailyMail.com request for an update on their probe.
The bike lanes on the Pulaski Bridge have bollards in front of them to stop vehicles from driving on to it by mistake, however the wider opening of the pedestrian walkway doesn’t – with only a shallow curb blocking the way.

There were no reported injuries or arrests in the incident. The Post reported that records associated with the car’s licence plate show no open traffic violations, with only one previous violation listed before for failing to display a parking ticket in 2014.
Images of the car’s licence plate show a handicapped logo displayed on it, though it remains unclear whether the owner of the car was behind the wheel at the time or if the car had actually been stolen.
This isn’t the first time a motorist has mistakenly opted to drive into the wrong lane on the bridge.
In 2016, one alarmed cyclist filmed a Volkswagen sedan hurtling towards him in the bike lane after they seemingly took a wrong turn and panicked.
On that occasion though, the driver was able to make it all the way to the end of the path before speeding off into Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
