Four people have been injured after a car being chased by police through London’s West End ploughed into a pedestrian at a bus stop.

A member of the public and three people inside the car were rushed to hospital for treatment shortly after the crash at 4.30am this morning.

Eyewitnesses revealed how the car smashed through a shop window after hitting the pedestrian, after which police officers restrained those inside.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: ‘At approximately 4.30am on Monday, 27 August a car was in collision with a member of the public in Regent Street.

‘The car was being pursued by police at the time of the collision. The London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade are in attendance.

‘The member of the public and three people from the car have been injured – no further details at this time. All have been taken to hospital for treatment.

‘A male has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.’ 

Westminster Police added: ‘Police are currently dealing with an incident on Regent Street.

‘Road closures are in place at Piccadilly Circus and Vigo Street both directions. Please avoid the area.
