Car smashes into hospital ‘leaving several injured’

An car has reportedly ploughed through the entrance of a health care facility, leaving several people injured.

The vehicle is believed to have hit Perth’s Joondalup Health Campus shortly after midday on Thursday. 

A witness told the ABC the car travelled 20 metres through the entrance and inside the building.

Smoke then billowed out of the facility, according to the witness.

A number of patients are said to have been hit, though the extent of their injuries are not yet known.

A hospital spokeswoman said medics were treating the casualties.

‘A car at 12:05pm crashed through our discharge lounge which is where our patients are waiting to be picked up to go home,’ the spokeswoman told Perth Now.

‘There are people injured. The medics from the emergency department are onsite and we are starting our emergency response.

‘We will be putting out a statement as soon as we have details on how many people have been injured.’

The building has been significantly damaged, it is believed.
