The moment a woman in her 70s was allegedly carjacked by a tradie while yelling at her to ‘get the f*** out of the car’ has been caught on camera.

The 26-year-old labourer and an accomplice allegedly dragged the woman from her red Honda SUV in the Christchurch suburb of Bishopdale in New Zealand on Monday afternoon.

The photo was taken by a passer-by and allegedly showed the alleged carjacker in white shoes, shorts and T-shirt shoving the elderly woman away from the car.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, was doing community work handing out flyers when she was set upon.

Her grandson Jordan Kidd, 22, said the man yelled profanities at the elderly woman as he stole her car, reported the New Zealand Herald.

‘She told me she got into her car and heard yelling at the door, telling her to ‘get the f*** out of the car’ and then next thing she knows the door’s open and they are taking her out of it,’ he said.

Mr Kidd was on his way home from work when his girlfriend saw the photo and recognised the car.

‘I couldn’t believe it, I was so bloody mad at these guys. I saw the photos of them, they aren’t small people, and they are fully grown men picking on the weak,’ he said.

The man did a U-turn and went straight to the scene of the crime.

He drove helplessly around trying to find his grandmother until she called him later that night from the police station to say she was ok.

‘She hasn’t left her bed since really, she was ill already.’

The woman relied on the car to look after her nephew with Down’s syndrome.

The abandoned vehicle was found 40 minutes away at Waimakariri Gorge bridge.

The assailant, from Kaiapoi near Christchurch, turned himself in to police on Tuesday.

He was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery of vehicles, unlawfully getting into a vehicle and driving while disqualified.

The man appeared in the district court on Wednesday.

Police are trying to find his accomplice.
