Carjacking victim turns the tables on crooks as he rams their vehicle

This is the incredible moment a South African carjacking victim turned the tables on crooks –  by ramming their vehicle off the road.

Armed thugs ordered the businessman and his wife out of their car on the driveway of their home east of Johannesburg.

But when they failed to make a quick getaway, they fled back to their own vehicle – only for their enraged victim to ram them off the street with his 1.5 tonne car.

Dramatic footage shows the black vehicle reversing at speed in to the thieves’ car as they scrambled to escape.

The victim drives off momentarily, only to turn around and launch a second attack on the hijackers, battering into the side of the getaway vehicle.

The clip was filmed on a neighbour’s CCTV camera on a residential street in Van Dyk Park in Boksburg, East Rand, just east of Johannesburg in South Africa just after dark.

Gang members ordered the shocked couple to get out of the car and both jumped in to steal it – but they could not find reverse and gave up after 30 seconds eventually fleeing back to their own car.

As one robber crosses the road a passing station wagon slows and one of the thugs aims their gun at the driver, who simply speeds off down the road.

It was at this point that the businessman turned the tables on the criminals – while his wife ran to raise the alarm.

Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said the couple were getting in the car in their driveway when they were accosted by two armed robbers and forced out of their vehicle.

He said: ‘The suspects could not reverse the car and ran back to their getaway car. The male victim jumped back into his car after the robbers left and reversed into the suspects’ car.

‘The car owner then drove into them again a few seconds later front wards and the community came out and caught two of the suspects and handed them over to the police’ he said.

Captain Masondo said an unlicensed firearm was also recovered and that the two suspects are being investigated to see if they are linked to other crimes and if their getaway car was stolen.

They are in custody and are due to appear in Boksburg Magistrate’s Court later this week on charges of attempted hijacking and possession of uan nlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The brave motorist declined to be identified but neighbours praised his heroic actions.
