Carlo Piero Stewart ‘taunted man who shot him’ thinking gun was fake

A father fatally shot in a suburban street allegedly taunted and punched a man holding the gun that would end his life just moments later.

Carlo Piero Stewart mistakenly thought the pistol allegedly brought to the scene of the violent shooting by Brayden Wilson-Knight was a fake, court documents allege.

He was shot on a suburban street in Ipswich, southeast Queensland, on July 27 last year after a brawl erupted over stolen motorbikes.

In shocking CCTV footage Stewart is seen throwing a ball with kids in front of Wilson-Knight’s home seconds before he arrives with the gun that would end his life just moments later

In shocking footage tendered to the court and obtained by the Courier Mail, Stewart is seen throwing a ball with kids in front of Wilson-Knight’s home seconds before he arrives.

The pair allegedly got in contact over Facebook after Wilson-Knight bought two stolen motorbikes belonging to Stewart’s friend Jacob Goujon.

Police allege Stewart decided to help his friend retrieve the bikes and organised to meet Wilson-Knight at his home in North Booval.

Court documents allege Stewart, a painter from Logan, said he would pay the $3,500 he paid his mate ‘Josh’ for the motorbikes so he wasn’t out of pocket.

Footage of the fatal shooting shows Wilson-Knight arrive on his suburban street accompanied by two friends, one a man named Tye Bickle.

Waiting outside his home was Stewart and eight friends, one of whom rushed the bleeding painter to hospital just seconds later.

'Mate, what have you got a gun for? You think you're hard, f***ing shoot me then' Stewart (pictured with his partner Bonita Reuben) is alleged to have told Wilson-Knight

Witnesses to the violent scene told police Wilson-Knight allegedly had a gun tucked in his pants which was immediately noticed by Stewart.

‘Mate, what have you got a gun for?’ the Logan father is alleged to have said, according to court documents.

‘You think you’re hard? F**king shoot me then.’

Wilson-Knight was then allegedly urged by his mate Bickle to ‘shoot them’ and pointed the gun at Stewart and pulled the trigger, but it didn’t fire.

In his witness statement to police tendered to the court, the unemployed father-of-two said he aimed his gun to the ground and cocked it, before it jammed.

In the CCTV footage of the brawl, Stewart, wearing a yellow hi-vis shirt, allegedly punches Wilson-Knight sending him to the ground.

Prosecutors alleged in court documents that Bickle then picked up or was passed the gun thought to be a fake, with witnesses claiming Stewart asked to be brought a silver baseball bat from a friend’s car.

Bickle then allegedly shot Stewart, with 11 shots heard on video played in the Brisbane Supreme Court in March of this year.

Two of the shots struck Stewart, whose lips went white as blood poured from his leg and stomach, witnesses at the scene recalled.

Just seconds after he allegedly shot the Logan father, Bickle is accused of hitting his friend Anthony Salvesani over the head with the same gun.

The blow fractured Salvesani’s skull and caused his brain to bleed.

Stewart is seen in the video rushing towards Goujon’s grey Mitsubishi Triton ute where his friend Jared Bell attempted to drive him to hospital.

But without his phone, Bell didn’t know the directions and instead applied pressure to the painter’s wounds as they waited for an ambulance.

The Logan father died in Ipswich Hospital just hours later.

Stewart's partner Bonita Reuben took to Facebook to announce the news of his passing and described her 'life partner' as a 'caring, loyal and loving person'

His wife Bonita Reuben took to Facebook to announce the news of his death and described her ‘life partner’ as a ‘caring, loyal and loving person’.

‘He loved hard with every little part of the huge heart he had and anyone close to him would have felt that first hand,’ she wrote.

‘I am so lucky to have been able to love you for the time you were here.

‘Rest easy my beautiful Guardian Angel, love you to the moon and back a thousand times, forever and always!’

Wilson-Knight told police in his witness statement that he brought the gun because he was worried for his safety and saw two men with baseball bats.

Stewart is alleged to have told the father-of-two in a phone call before the meet-up, that whoever stole the motorbikes would be ‘put in a hole’.

Wilson-Knight has since been charged with one count of murder and two counts of grievous bodily harm, as a party to all three crimes.

He will contest the charges and provided police with a witness statement after successfully applying for bail to work in Cairns as a gardener.

Bickle and a third man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were also charged with one count of murder.

If the men are convicted of murder, Crown prosecutor Ed Coker said they would face mandatory life sentences.

The case will return to the Ipswich Magistrates Court for mention next week.
