A group of close to 50 teenagers have wreaked havoc on the streets of Sydney in the first week of school holidays.

Arden Street in the beachside suburb of Coogee was left littered with rubbish as bins were knocked over on Tuesday night.

Passers-by were allegedly assaulted by the youths as they attempted to shut down their raucous party.

Members of the public were allegedly punched and had beer bottles thrown at them.

Police were called to the scene around 11.30pm. 

Most of the group of nearly 50 adolescents were reportedly able to flee before authorities arrived in the area.

NSW Police told Daily Mail Australia that they did not receive any reports of physical harm to members of the public. 

They also said there had been no reports of damage despite the claims.  

A large clean up operation was underway on Wednesday morning following the incident.
