Cruise ship horror as passenger dies swimming off ‘Mystery Island’

A passenger on a cruise ship that left Sydney on May 15 has died while swimming in Vanuatu. 

Carnival Australia confirmed that the Carnival Splendor passenger died on Mystery Island.

‘Carnival Cruise Line is deeply saddened by the death of a guest on Mystery Island, following what appears to be a medical situation whilst swimming,’ the cruise line said in a statement.

‘Our Care Team are supporting the guest’s family along with other guests during this difficult time.’

A passenger on a cruise ship that left Sydney on May 15 has died while swimming in Vanuatu

A passenger on board told 7NEWS the passenger died while snorkelling.

The ship was on a nine day trip around the south pacific and is due to arrive back in Sydney on Wednesday, May 24.
