She’s best known for co-presenting the popular logical Channel 4 game show for 26 years.

And Carol Vorderman has revealed during an interview on Today FM that she earned three times more than her late Countdown co-star Richard Whiteley.

The maths expert, 57, was talking about gender pay gap and admitted that her higher salary caused the only ever heated debate between the pair.

Gender pay gap: Carol Vorderman has revealed during an interview on Today FM that she earned three times more than her late Countdown co-star Richard Whiteley

Talking to the radio station, she said: ‘Okay I’m going to give you an exclusive here how, I can’t get involved in that because the only heated debate Richard and I ever had was when he found out that I was being paid three times more than him.’

Carol, who was reported to have earned around £1 million and £3 million-a-year, went on to talk about how the gender pay gap isn’t necessarily just men versus women.

She said: ‘The whole gender pay gap thing is not necessarily men versus women, there’s a lot of women against women. Trolling on Twitter – it’s not men having a go at women it’s often women having a go at women, which I kind of think, “Where’s the sisterhood gone?” I’m glad it’s being discussed though and it is out in the open now.’

Carol then quit the popular logical Channel 4 game show after 26 years in 2008.

Talking about her decision to leave, she said: ‘I left after 26 years, I’m a great believer in new chapters, it was like a marriage and it was a massive part in my life, but I didn’t want to be sort of, hanging around.’
