The masterminds behind the infamous ‘carpool’ stunt have told how they pulled off the daring feat and the unexpected response they got from police.

Adelaide twins and Youtube duo Danny and Michael Phillippou took the internet by storm when they filled their car with water and turned it into a virtual fishbowl.

Not only did they surprise passersby as they drove down the street, but also managed to get a funny reaction from someone they were trying to avoid, The Advertiser reported.

As the pair drove in their car, they attracted the attention of a police patrol but the could never have expected the officer’s response. 

‘The cops came out and said it’s not illegal,’ Danny said.

‘They said it was bizarre and it was irresponsible but it wasn’t illegal — believe it or not it was roadworthy.’

Danny and his brother said it took two months to seal the car with the help of Lonsdale business Custom Imports.

The twins along with friend Jackson O’Doherty sported swimming goggles as they took the finished Ford Laser through the Lonsdale Hotel bottle shop on Wednesday.

‘We were driving past this old dude and he was like, ‘is this for real?’ — people were just in shock it was such a weird thing to see,’ Danny said.

What’s more the car was fully functional, from working indicators to a functioning horn.

Their RackRacka brand has taken on more than five million subscribers and some of their other pranks have raked in more than 12 million views.

With a reception like that, the twins have made plans to take a crack at the shark tank in Hollywood.

The pair will fly out on Friday to live in their new Los Angeles home as they look to make their mark in the United States.
