Carrie Bickmore says mobiles have killed the pop in

Her career has gone from strength to strength after becoming the host of current affairs program The Project.

But on Sunday, Carrie Bickmore reminisced on old times and lamented the death of impromptu visits from friends and family.

Writing in her column for Stellar, the 36-year-old said people no longer ‘just pass through’ and that mobile phones have killed the ‘pop in’.

‘I can’t remember the last time I just popped in on someone’: The Project host Carrie Bickmore laments technology for killing the ‘pop in’

‘I can’t remember the last time I just popped in on someone, or someone popped in on me,’ Carrie wrote.

‘[Mobile phones] have killed all the fun. A pop in is only a pop in without any prior communication, and these days no one dares pop in without a quick text first.’

The pretty blonde said the best weekends of her childhood were the product of ‘pop ins’ from family friends.

But now, Carrie describes catching up with friends as an ‘organisational miracle’.

She added that they are usually only achieved as a result of back-and-forth messaging and compromise.

Carrie also blamed ‘over-planned’ schedules, which allow no time for spontaneous catch ups.

‘When I was growing up, we pretty much hung at home all weekend. Nothing was open, nowhere to be, just potter around the house,’ she wrote.

The Network Ten star ended her column by encouraging families to attempt to resurrect the ‘pop in’.

Carrie is a loving mother to children Oliver Lange, ten, who is shared with late ex-husband Greg Lange, and daughter Evie Walker, two.
