Casemiro has pleaded with Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at Manchester United ahead of his move to Old Trafford. 

The 30-year-old midfielder will join United for £70 million from Real Madrid and is expected to be unveiled ahead of their clash with Liverpool tonight. 

Casemiro played alongside Ronaldo during their time in Madrid and he’s hopeful of reuniting with the ‘incredible’ forward who he won a number of trophies with, including four Champions League titles.

The Brazilian bid an emotional farewell to Real Madrid during a press conference on Monday morning and he was asked about Ronaldo’s situation at United. 

He praised the Portuguese star, saying: ‘I haven’t talked to Cristiano, I hope he stays because he’s one of the best players in all the time. He’s incredible. 

‘I want to bring my values ​​to Manchester United, everything that Real Madrid taught me, to win from day to day, from every training session. I want to experience the Premier from within. I enjoy everything I have.’

Ronaldo told the club he wanted to leave earlier this summer and missed most of pre-season, eager to exit Old Trafford for a team in the Champions League.

The likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid have all turned down the chance to sign him and he could now be set to stay in Manchester.

Meanwhile, Casemiro hit back at those claiming he’s moving to Old Trafford for financial gain, insisting he felt his time in Madrid was over following their Champions League win in May. 

‘Those who think I’m leaving for money is because they don’t know me. I think there are few and they don’t know me. It’s not for money. They’re wrong. That’s not the case,’ he said.

‘At the end of the Champions League final I had the feeling that my cycle was over. I’m honest. After the holidays, with a clear head, the feeling was the same. It wasn’t that fast. I already spoke with the club as soon as it finished the Champions League.

‘My wife supported me from the beginning. My family was always by my side in this decision. It was very difficult to talk to the president, but he was always honest with him.’

United fans will be relieved that their search for a defensive midfielder is finally complete, and hoping he can make his debut as soon as possible.

The Red Devils currently sit 19th in the Premier League and will be gunning for their first points of the season against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
