Casey Donovan hits back at body positivity zealots who call her a traitor for losing weight – as she reveals how a dating app switch helped her find love after THAT ‘catfishing’ scandal
Casey Donovan has responded to members of the body positivity community who have branded her a traitor for losing weight.
The Australian Idol winner, 34, who recently revealed she now weighs under 100 kilograms for the first time in her adult life, told Sunday Life this weekend that her recent slim-down has been marred by negativity.
‘People have been quite nasty to me because they see that I’m on this healthy lifestyle and there’s a lot of negativity that comes with that,’ she said.
The singer denied accusations that she’s ‘not being proud’ of who she is by changing her appearance, declaring: ‘Everyone’s got an opinion.’
Despite being rejected by some body positivity zealots, Donovan insisted there is value in creating a community where body differences are celebrated.

Elsewhere in the interview, Donovan spoke about her blossoming relationship with girlfriend Renee Sharples, who she met via dating app Bumble after she switched her preferences to ‘women only’.
The couple met during the Covid pandemic, and got to know each other during socially-distanced walks during lockdown.
Donovan was famously at the centre of a ‘catfishing’ scandal in 2004, during which one of her female friends pretended to be her male online lover.

The singer even had sex with her female friend in an attempt to please the fake lover, only for the rouse to fall apart after six years.
Donovan said the experience made her question her sexuality.
‘It was an interesting time and just a journey that I’ve been going on,’ she said. ‘It was a really nice segue into the woman that I’ve become.’

Renee will be with the star when she hosts WorldPride’s opening concert in Sydney next Friday where the likes of Kylie Minogue will perform.
Donovan is currently starring in the stage production of ‘& Juliet’, a spin-off story based on the Shakespeare classic Romeo And Juliet, which is playing at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne.
The show opens on February 26.
