A cash-strapped primary school has caused anger by asking parents to fund ‘treats’ to boost staff ‘wellbeing’.
The letter from Thorpe Lea Primary School in Egham, Surrey, was posted on social media by a parent and urged families to give money for Easter eggs, vouchers and tickets to events.
It stated: ‘Small treats and tokens of appreciation for our staff are not able to be funded from the school budget.’
Amid a storm of criticism, a humanities teacher said: ‘I don’t need treats, I need textbooks, so raise money for those, which could help mental health too.’
Geoff Barton, of the Association of School And College Leaders, said that boosting teacher wellbeing would benefit pupils.
