The castle, 14 miles from the city of Bath, dates back to 1835 and had originally been a lodge for nearby country pile Rood Ashton House.

It is described as a folly, with the listing stating it ‘was not built as a fortification’.

One recent guest who stayed at the castle called Zuzana wrote on Airbnb: ‘Amazing castle! We were a group of 13 and there was enough space for everyone. It was a great space for a gathering.’

Linda said: ‘An absolutely bonkers amazing place! It was perfect for a big family get together at Christmas – great fun for all generations.’

While Allen added: ‘We will be going back and I can’t recommend the castle enough!’
