Cat Lara goes missing from Wales home for 12 years

Hear Kitty, hear kitty! Lost cat Lara returns home 12 years after vanishing… and she’s been gone so long she’s now DEAF

  • Feline went missing in 2006 and its owners thought it was gone for good
  • But last week it was discovered by a vet five miles away from her Wales home
  • They traced its owners who later found out she had lost her hearing completely

A missing cat has been reunited with its owner 12 years after it disappeared – only for her to find the furry feline has gone deaf.

Lara the cat vanished in 2006 and after a desperate search to find her proved fruitless, her owner thought she was gone for good.

But last Friday she was found by a vet five miles away from her home in Wales’s Vale of Glamorgan.

They checked her microchip and traced her back to owner Angie Hardy, who discovered she had lost her hearing.

She said: ‘It was with great surprise that I received a call from a vet enquiring whether I’d lost my cat.

‘I explained that yes I had, but that it was nearly 12 years ago.

‘An hour later I came home with Lara, one of a pair of kittens our family had adopted from Cats Protection in Bryncethin nearly 16 years ago.

‘She is now deaf but apart from that seems fine, happily munching all the food I put in front of her.

‘She is the friendliest of cats and I find it hard to believe that she has had no human contact in all that time.

‘I would like to extend my gratitude to whoever has been looking after her.. It is very much appreciated.’

Lara disappeared from Aberthin in Wales November 2006 and was found in St Athan, Wales.

She was found by Boverton Vets last Friday. Lara had been chipped before she went missing from her home in Aberthin, near Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan.
