Cate Blanchett has made friends with countless A-List stars throughout her glamorous career.

And on Monday, the 53-year-old was spotted boarding a flight to Adelaide with Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong.

The pair were seen chatting away as they walked alongside each other a Sydney Airport with Cate’s seven-year-old daughter Edith.

The trio were followed closely by the Australian Federal Police. 

Cate was dressed smartly in a black jacket, white knitted top and black baggy trousers. 

Her blonde locks were styled in a sleek blow wave and she added a touch of glamour with a designer black clutch.

Meanwhile, Ms Wong wore checkered grey blazer, black pants and designer dress shoes.

The pair looked engrossed in conversation as they made their way to the departures lounge. 

This is not the first time the pair have spent time together.  

Cate was one of several high-profile mourners who celebrated the life of Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam at Sydney’s Town Hall back in 2014, and was seen chatting to Ms Wong at the service.

She also announced an initiative to save water and energy at the Sydney Theatre Company back in 2019 alongside Ms Wong, Peter Garrett and her husband Andrew Upton.

Cate is currently in Australia to promote her upcoming movie Tár, which will be released in cinemas next year.

In the feature she plays Lydia Tár, the world-renowned gay conductor of a Berlin orchestra whose high-flying career is tainted by an abuse scandal.

Cate credited the film’s writer and director Todd Field for drawing the best out of his cast with often unscripted, spur-of-the-moment ideas.

‘I felt like we were standing on the edge of a cliff every day saying, “This may not work, let’s give this a try,” which was really exciting to make,’ she told Reuters.
