Andrew Johns’ ex-wife Catherine Mahoney has revealed how she learned to use the dating app Tinder following the couple’s divorce.
Speaking to Body+Soul Magazine this week, the former WAG says that she has a love/hate relationship with online dating.
Catherine met an ‘English guy who I really clicked with’ when he messaged her about ‘having his own happy ending’.

‘Gross! Unmatch. In the early days of using the app I’d regularly delete it – usually first thing in the morning as I felt grossed out by the whole thing – only to find myself uploading it again when I was feeling lonely at night,’ she said.
Catherine added: ‘I found I had to speak emoji, as the modern-day hieroglyphics are all that some men spoke. I wasn’t sure what they wanted to do with their jazz-hand emojis, although even I knew what the eggplant meant.’
The eggplant emoji is often used to signify male genitalia in text speak.

‘I also discovered if someone asked for your mobile number as it was ‘easier’ to chat, that was code for ‘I want to send you a photo of my front bottom’ – and that isn’t something I wanted popping up on my phone screen’ Catherine added.
It comes after the writer admitted she is still in therapy eight years after their split.
The power couple were together for 13 years through the end of Johns’ legendary NRL career and have one son together, Louis.
Catherine, a former entertainment publicist, has released a tell-all memoir called Currently Between Husbands
Mahoney, who just released a tell-all memoir called Currently Between Husbands, told New Idea she still sees a therapist to manage her feelings.
‘It’s not a self-help book [as] I’m still in therapy! But it’s how I navigated the strange dating disasters and everything that came after it,’ the former publicist said.
‘I wanted to show the lows and highs and the wobbly middle bits.’
Johns and Mahoney tied the knot in 2007 and split in 2011, but reconciled a year later before separating for good in 2014.
In March 2009, the couple welcomed their son Louis. At the time, Johns already had a nine-year-old son from a previous marriage, Sam.

He split from his first wife Renae Chapman in 2002, two years after tying the knot.
Johns is now dating yoga instructor Kate Kendall, with whom he shares daughter Alice, born in September 2018.
Mahoney recently revealed she burst into tears at Centrelink when she went in to change her name after their split.
‘[After our divorce] I went into Centrelink to change the name on my Medicare card from Johns to Mahoney,’ she told 2DayFM radio.
Mahoney and Johns got married in 2007, after his public arrest for drug possession
‘And having to say to a complete stranger my marriage has ended, I burst into tears. She was lovely, she opened the drawer and got me a box of tissues.’
Mahoney also revealed to radio host Erin Molan she was looking for love online after the breakdown of a four-year relationship in late 2020.
‘I was in a relationship for four years that fell apart about one and a half years ago, so I do go on the apps as much for content as for anything,’ she said.

From crazy fan encounters to ‘Joey’s’ colourful off-field career and his battles with drugs, alcohol and mental health – Mahoney and Johns’ relationship was a rollercoaster, and was played out in the public eye

Mahoney’s book is a no-holds-barred approach that explains what life in the limelight was like as the wife of one of Australia’s most recognisable sports stars.
Looking back now, it almost feels like Johns made as many headlines for his off-field exploits than he did for his wizardry on the field, particularly when he revealed in 2007 that he’d frequently used ecstasy throughout his career, and that he suffered from bipolar disorder.
