Catherine Tyldesley and her husband Tom Pitfield are expecting a second child – a little sister for their six-year-old son Alfie.

The actress, 38, revealed the news to HELLO! magazine, admitting she ‘burst into tears’ when she found out she was pregnant.

‘We’re absolutely elated. We feel so lucky. When we found out, I just burst into tears,’ the former Coronation Street actress told the publication.

Catherine is 14 weeks pregnant – and the news comes after struggling with two years of experiencing phantom pregnancy symptoms, due to a hormonal imbalance.

‘I took so many tests as I was convinced I was actually pregnant, but in fact my body was just mimicking a pregnancy,’ she said. ‘So this time, even when my stomach was a bit swollen, I just thought: Oh hormonal imbalances again!

‘Tom was in bits when we found out we are having a little girl. He has suddenly gone all mushy. I’m sure she will have him wrapped around her little finger.’

Catherine’s condition – hyperemesis gravidarum – is ‘not like morning sickness as you feel sick all day’, she said, explaining that Kate Middleton also has it.

‘It is the same thing Kate had, although I have not been as extreme as her. I was put on medication and that has been a godsend as I feel so much better,’ she said.

In August, Catherine took to Instagram to share snaps with Alfie as they splashed about in a hot tub in the garden.

While it appeared that Catherine was trying to relax, her little boy had other ideas, and could be seen jumping off the side of the inflatable tub and into the water.

In July, Catherine sizzled in a black swimsuit as she shared an empowering message to her followers to embrace their bodies.

She posed cross-legged on the ground as she spent some quality time with her son in the garden during the heatwave.

Captioning the picture, she wrote: ‘Had a beautiful afternoon in the garden with my boys. I sometimes get it into my silly little head that I don’t look good enough to wear a swimsuit.

‘That I’m not as toned as I’d like. That I’m a bit squishy. But then I remind myself that I produced a human being. I eat well, and I’m super active.

‘I do everything I possibly can to give my body the best shot in life. I fuel my body the best way I know how, paying extra attention to immunity and energy boosting foods.

‘It moves – I celebrate that. I’m grateful . It’s strong. It created life… who gives a flying fudge if you jiggle a bit?! When I’m with my little boy I don’t give a hoot.

‘All I care about is winning a decent water fight and laughing my momma boobies off! And that’s how it should be! Hours of splashing about, BBQ’s and cuddles- THATS what matters!!

‘Get out there and enjoy that glorious sun (it’s also going to boost your vitamin D levels. Which is pretty crucial atm!) Big love -OWN IT!’
