Catherine Zeta-Jones, 51, admits to having ‘insecurities like every other woman’ but gains confidence with age

She’s known just as much for her age-defying looks as her stellar film career.

And Catherine Zeta-Jones, 51, admitted to Australian newspaper The Sydney Morning Herald on Sunday that she has ‘insecurities like every other woman’.

The Welsh beauty, who is married to Hollywood royalty Michael Douglas, said she has become a lot ‘more confident’ with her looks as she gets older.

‘Personally, I would never consider myself a great beauty but my mother always told me to make the best of myself,’ Catherine said of the beauty standards women face.

Asked as to whether she’s ever ‘needed to put on a front’, the Chicago actress candidly responded: ‘There’s a confidence I’ve sometimes had to put on when I walk down a red carpet. I have my insecurities like every other woman.

‘But as I’ve got older, I’ve got much more confident about the way I look.’

Catherine also revealed that she’s fond of Old Hollywood glamour, and is such a fan of makeup that she won’t put the bins out ‘without mascara on, or eyeliner’.

The Mask of Zorro star is married to American actor Michael Douglas, 76, and the couple share son Dylan, 20, and daughter Carys, 18.

Catherine has always been open about her health secrets, and told American Harper’s Bazaar this month her daily diet, which begins with a morning coffee.

Breakfast usually consists of porridge in winter and a non-fat vanilla yoghurt with granola, blueberries and raspberries in spring.

Not one to deprive herself, Catherine indulges in either ‘a good British fry-up’ on the weekends with her family, or Martha Stewart’s French toast recipe.

A mid-morning snack includes a cup of tea with ‘a cookie or something’, followed by lunch which consists of a salad with either grilled chicken, grilled cod or stuffed eggplant.

Afternoon tea includes a home-brewed coffee and a treat such as a scone with jam and clotted cream, followed by a dinner of salad with preferably fish or white meat.

Desserts often include a slice of apple pie or a scoop of ice cream.
