Confronting new footage showing the moments before a security guard kicked a patron as he lay on the ground outside a popular nightclub reveals he was attacked.

CCTV captured the fight breaking out between security guards and the man outside Wellington nightclub ‘Boston on Blair’ during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Nick Mills, owner of Boston on Blair, told the NZ Herald the initial video only told half of the story.

CCTV footage reveals the moment the patron takes a swing at the security guard

The new CCTV was posted to social media by a colleague of the alleged attacker.

The footage showed the patron taking a swing at the security guard just outside the bar’s entrance.

The unidentified man was rushed to Wellington Hospital to receive treatment for his injuries

Three guards then rushed to their colleague’s aid as the patron continued to throw punches.

The man was thrown to the ground and kicked in the head by a guard, as other patrons watched.

The man was rushed to Wellington Hospital to receive treatment for his injuries.

The colleague who posted the CCTV footage defended the bouncer’s actions.

‘I’ve worked many nights … where we have some people who when we refuse entry don’t like it and become aggressive, where we get attacked on the door, he said.

‘I know of a night where people pull out knives because we refuse entry.’

The colleague said patrons didn’t realise security guards provided a safe environment for people to enjoy, but never received the same protection.

‘Violence is not the first avenue we take, when we are working doors we do use our mouth but if you put us in a position where we have to look after ourselves bet your ass we will go down that avenue too.’

Kate Te Tau, a passerby who stopped to help, received a busted bottom lip after an electric heater was pushed onto her.

Ms Te Tau has alleged the heater was pushed by the same security guard.

The video footage does not show who it was that pushed the heater and Daily Mail Australia makes no suggestion that the man is guilty.

The good Samaritan had to get stitches for the injury and has threatened to take legal action on social media.

‘Such an unprofessional, ruthless and violent attack on a young male. Myself and friends walked past to aid him helplessly getting beaten up by men whose job it is (to) look out for trouble and not cause it.

‘The bouncer also pushed an outdoor heater into us resulting in stitches to my lip. See you in court… here’s footage for everyone to see!’

Wellington police are investigating the alleged assault but no arrests have been made.
