CCTV shows final moments of Melbourne socialite found dead

Chilling CCTV footage has emerged showing the final moments in the life of murdered socialite Jeanette Moss.

The 69-year-old Melbourne heiress and grandmother-of-four can be seen spending the afternoon with close friend Elsie Johnston on the day of her death.

The pair were captured on camera in a Port Melbourne Coles on January 14, 2014, a day before her body was discovered in her luxury apartment.

Ms Moss, widow of lingerie mogul Hal Moss, was found dead with a sheet around her neck, and police believe she may have known her killer, The Herald Sun reported.

There were no signs of forced entry, and no DNA evidence left at the scene, suggesting the wealthy socialite may have let the murderer inside.

With no suspects, and no motive, police have been relying on the only clues they have – missing jewellery including a watch, a necklace and a ring.

The missing signet ring has a gold band featuring a green or jade stone with the Ferguson family crest – a lion – etched into it.

Homicide squad Detective Senior-Constable Kirsty Hellebrand said all of the possible suspects have been cleared, and are appealing for public help.

‘In one sense we are starting off fresh and hope this review and CCTV footage can bring forward a result — it has been quite baffling,’ she said.

Ms Moss’s son Derham is deperate for answers and is pushing for justice for his mother, who was heavily involved in charity work.

‘Mum didn’t have an enemy in the world. To think that the person who did this is still out there in the community is extraordinary,’ he said.

Mrs Johnston, who was dropped home on the day of the killing in Ms Moss’s green 1997 BMW sedan, still can’t believe her friend was murdered.

‘I didn’t think that was going to be the last time I saw her. Everything has changed since I lost Jen. I haven’t been to the gym or any of the things we used to do. I miss her terribly, I always will,’ she said.

Police urge anyone with information to call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
